Brand names in a url (domain) is a sure way to get in trouble.
Like ebay I had a few brand names in my url and they ask me to remove or lose my account .

Totally agree about taking the calculated risk. I had a domain onces called amazoncoupons.com and without hardly any content I had a "hand me over or we close your amazon affiliate account email" within 2 weeks of going live.

But I also have a lot of domainnames that include barandname and never had any problems with that.

The guy from IPK focuses more on modelnames as a domain like for instance http://ue55b7020w.co.uk

I don't let the risk hold me back on getting a domain name with a brand in it and if I need to turn it over I cal always recreate the same site on a domainname that is a bit more general. Your loss...$7 for a domainname and a bit of your time

The dumbest thing I've ever done was registering a domain name with Amazon as part of the name. It didn't take long, maybe not even 3 days when they approached to me. :D

The end was, of course, transfer of the domain into Amazon's ownership. Nevertheless, I saved my associates status healthy despite of this "event"...

I think it is not predictable what is going to happen if you use brand or registered trademark or other protected names in your domain. It completely relies on the corporate policies that particular company operates.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to check with legal departments of the company you wish its brand to promote if there are any obstacles for you as associate to register company brand name. If they confirm, then you're on the horse. If you achive remarkable sales result with it, ask them for the exclusivity to use brand domain names only by you. Then you're in the Ferrari. :D

Cheers!
